About In The Mix: a new, unusual and unique way of learning

In The Mix first came to life after receiving many requests for both private lessons and group sessions in our different fields of expertise, namely Languages, Sports and Music. Since we offer customised courses, we got more and more unusual requests as for example: learning how to play the guitar using only French songs or learning Spanish while working out.

Evidently we had to come up with a whole new set of exercises and develop new pedagogic strategies.

People are starting to get bored by the classical way of teaching, behind a desk in class or nowadays behind a computer... All kids, teenagers and adults do want to learn but also need to move, speak or sing, have fun, loosen up, free their minds, ... or in other words, have a good time while learning!

Moreover, especially after the pandemic, people started to value their free time at home more than before. We want to keep doing all our activities but we noticed we also cherish our time at home, with our family. How do we fit all our beloved activities in our busy daily schedule?

Our In The Mix-activities offer the unique possibility to connect all the dots. Here you may expect quality courses of experienced teachers & coaches and, if you wish to save time, you can spice up your course or activity by mixing it with a second ingredient to really enjoy this full and brand new experience.

In The Mix-activities arose after a typical student's dilemma. The following happened:

A student once sadly told us she was thinking of quitting because she needed more time at home with her new family. She had to choose between her sports and language class. We then started thinking of a solution which turned out to be: doing both of her activities at the same time.

We had to come up with new activities that consisted of both sports and language elements. After that special class she had sweat even more than during her cardio training, all while learning Spanish simultaneously. On top of that, she had way more fun completing the tasks we prepared for her than merely running or sitting behind a desk in class. She was very pleased and asked for more.

We then tried and applied this new method of teaching on a full class straight away and the outcome proved to be a big success. Students tend to forget the boredom of sitting in class listening to teachers all day as well as the weariness of the need to start working out. They are set on the competition aspect of the game. They do not realise their minds are assimilating a lot of new language insight and their bodies are most definitely working outHighly recommended for those who want to learn a language but also want to get in shape and have fun!

Today we are proud to present our two unique and unusual In The Mix-activities:

An ideal team building, birthday or school activity.

Professional background

After graduating in both 'Masters in Translation & Master in Education', the following professional experiences gave me the opportunity to widen my background by teaching and organising activities for different types of audiences of all ages: children, teenagers, students and adults.

  • Guest lecturer at the University of Brussels (VUB) teaching Spanish to students in the Postgraduate Sports Management (PG Sport). Thanks to the director of PG Sport, Jos Verschueren, I got the chance to develop my own syllabus and organise my first combined classes which required creating new sets of exercises generating unique pedagogic strategies (more info: In The Mix).
  • Language teacher (Cvosemper) with over 10 years of experience in an education centre for adults in Brussels where I also had the opportunity to coach interns and organise events.
  • Gymnastics and Trampoline certified coach for over 15 years at a sports club (KSGT) for both kids and young adults. Certified judge during trampoline competitions and our team also participated at Belgium Got Talent.
  • Certified entertainer for youth services (such as Sportievak and Crejaksie).
  • Musician playing mostly the drums and the guitar in several bands (The Garden Chairs – Mentalspace – Mindless Lunacy - Brusto - Faux Friends) and at different venues all over Brussels and surroundings.
  • First Aid Certification: member of the prevention team

In the course of my career I started to receive more and more requests for private lessons with the purpose of really focusing on the needs of the student. This is how I started elaborating individual programmes to meet the personal wishes and goals of the participant. I started to customise my lessons, courses and activities for each request individually.

Examples of elaborated personalised programmes, lessons and activities

  • (Language) Spanish lessons at a wine company called LeWine: Due to professional partnerships, relations and regular contact with Spanish vineyards, they started to follow our customised Spanish course.
  • (Sports) Self-defence session during a team building at Proximus and at CVOSemper: Two companies called upon our company to give an introductory self-defence class as a fun and unusual team building activity.
  • (Music) Drum lesson at a birthday party: Instead of going to the movies or bowling, they decided to call upon us to have an introductory drum session. By showing the whole group some easy techniques and basic patterns, they soon discovered it was rather easy to play along their favourite tracks.
  • (Language) French lessons for a foreign kid: Getting a first introduction of the French language, especially for kids from expats, before starting school in Belgium. We also provide assistance along the way during the school year.
  • (Sports) Trampoline sessions during team building and birthday activities: We went to KOJUMP, a trampoline park in Brussels, where I taught both kids and adults the basics of trampoline as well as some cool jumps.
  • (Music) Guitar lessons with French songs: To play & sing along with French songs.
  • (Language) Teaching how to read and write to kids: Providing assistance to kids for  reading and writing during the summer holidays to prepare them for Primary School.
  • (Sports) Multisport activities at a youth camp: Organising competition-based multisport activities during summer holiday camps.
  • (Language) Preparing someone to be a fitness coach in Spain: General introduction to the Spanish language to be able to integrate Spanish society along with specific vocabulary about sports and fitness.
  • (Language) Teaching French to a father: Revision of the French language along with specialised children's vocabulary for a father who wanted to speak French with his new born.
